I'm doing a critical areas scan, and I'll do a full scan after that - but this only happened after I started trying to get all my programmes into one folder, I think everything's got dissociated. However I try to open, using a default programme or a specific programme, I just get that little circle turning around, and then nothing, nada, zip, zilch. Plus I may have just downloaded a virus, accidentally, though my anti-virus software said it blocked it. I must have duplicate programmes and stubs all over the place, and most of the documents on my computer won't open. But Microsoft Office and Open Office documents won't even open. When I've deleted and reinstalled some software, its started to work again on the 3rd download, so I can now access Adobe documents.

And now I've realised that he added a user account called User1, and some programmes have been downloading there. Took my laptop to be professionally cleaned up a few months ago, which went fine, but then this weekend I decided to tidy up the location of the software - its in the original Program Files folder, and also one called Program Files (x86) which the guy in the shop put in.
